The PhaseCheck app is designed to evaluate the sound system's speaker configuration by running a test signal. This helps verify that speakers are in-phase and correctly wired in terms of polarity, and the app offers both manual and automatic testing modes.

In manual mode, users can actively engage with the process by playing the test signal and adjusting the phase to listen for discrepancies, ensuring optimal setup of the sound system. Alternatively, automatic mode facilitates a comprehensive assessment by running a series of test signals through the system while analyzing results via the device's microphone.

Version 2.0 introduces an enhanced waveform view mode, catering to advanced users. This feature allows for the generation of an asymmetrical waveform (a ramp waveform) and captures individual sound recordings from each speaker for detailed waveform comparison.

Given the complexity of phase alignment, the app includes extensive help resources aimed at guiding users towards achieving optimal performance from their sound systems.

It is advisable to check the phase configuration whenever wiring adjustments are made to confirm correct polarity. Incorrect phase alignment can significantly detract from sound quality, notably diminishing bass response and adversely affecting stereo imaging, which may create an illusion of sounds emanating from outside the intended space.

To conduct a phase check, connect your iOS device to your sound system for audio playback, positioning it equidistantly between the speakers. Care should be taken to avoid placing the device too close, as this can prevent adequate phase cancellation detection. Additionally, set the volume to a comfortable level and minimize background noise to enhance the accuracy of the scan.
